A workplace injury can affect so much more than your job. It can impact your sleep, your daily routine, your family life, and your confidence getting through the day.

At Reform Physical Therapy, we help injured workers recover from work-related injuries, rebuild strength, improve mobility, and safely return to the activities and responsibilities that matter most.

We provide Workers’ Compensation physical therapy at all seven Reform Physical Therapy locations throughout Southern Maine.

What is a Work Injury?

A work injury is any injury, illness, or medical condition that occurs while performing job-related duties. Work injuries can happen suddenly, such as a fall or lifting injury, or develop gradually over time due to repetitive movements, prolonged positions, or physical demands associated with a person’s occupation.

Physical therapy can help individuals recover from work-related injuries, reduce pain, improve function, and safely return to work.

Common Examples of Work Injuries

  • Lifting a heavy box and straining your back
  • Slipping on a wet floor at work and injuring your knee
  • Developing shoulder pain from repetitive overhead reaching
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome from repetitive computer use
  • Falling from a ladder on a job site
  • Neck pain from repetitive tasks or poor workstation ergonomics
  • Tendonitis from repetitive movements
  • Injuries sustained in a work-related motor vehicle accident

Workers’ Compensation Care Built Around Your Recovery

No two injuries are the same, and no two jobs require the same physical demands. Whether you spend your day lifting, driving, standing, reaching, walking, sitting, or performing repetitive movements, your treatment plan should reflect what your body needs to do every day.

Our physical therapists create individualized treatment plans focused on reducing pain, restoring function, improving strength, and helping you return to work safely and confidently.

Workplace injuries can happen in any setting, including offices, healthcare facilities, schools, warehouses, job sites, restaurants, retail spaces, and more.

We commonly treat:

  • Back pain and lifting injuries
  • Neck pain
  • Shoulder injuries
  • Knee injuries

Understanding Workers’ Compensation in Maine

Under Maine Workers’ Compensation law, employees who sustain a personal injury arising out of and in the course of employment may be entitled to reasonable and proper medical treatment related to the injury. Maine law states that the employer initially has the right to select the employee’s healthcare provider.

After the first 10 days from the start of healthcare, the employee may select a different healthcare provider by giving the employer the name of the provider and a statement of intention to treat with that provider.

The Maine Workers’ Compensation Board also notes that if your employer has selected a healthcare provider, you must go to that provider for the first ten days of treatment, and if you want to change providers after the first ten days, you must tell your employer who the new provider is.

This information is provided for educational purposes only and should not be considered legal advice. Every claim is unique. Please contact your employer, insurance carrier, the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board, or a legal professional for guidance specific to your situation.

What To Do After a Workplace Injury

If you are injured at work, it is important to take action early. Report the injury to your employer, seek medical attention, follow your provider’s recommendations, and ask questions if you are unsure about your treatment options.

According to the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board, injured employees must tell their employer they were injured within 60 days of the injury.
